Views Sought On COVID's Impact On Young Islanders' Mental Health

Mental Health

Young Islanders are being urged to share their experiences of how coronavirus has impacted their mental health and wellbeing.

The Isle of Wight Youth Trust is calling on all young Islanders aged 11-25 years, to take part in an online survey.

It is part of the charity's commitment to understanding the needs of young people on the Isle of Wight.

The findings from this survey will be released to the public, once the analysis has been completed.

Youth Trust Chief Executive, Clare Cannock, said:

“This is an exciting opportunity for young people to have their voices heard on how the outbreak of COVID has impacted on them, and how services can better meet their needs.

“The survey is open to young Islanders aged 11 -25 years and we want to encourage as many as possible to take part to ensure our services are accessible to all young Islanders.

“The findings from this survey will build upon the findings of our first Covid Candid Survey, which we conducted over the Summer and has informed our work up to this point. So much has changed since the Summer, so we feel it’s really important to check in with young Islanders needs as we go through this lockdown.”

She added:

“A key finding from our Summer survey was that 88% of young people said it was true or sometimes true that they had been worrying a lot. When asked more about specific worries, our young people indicated that their mental health was the area they worried about most, with a quarter reporting that they worried about their mental health all or most of the time.

“With so many young people worrying about their mental health, it’s up to us, and other Island services to ensure young people have support when they need it most.

“We are currently building a new wellbeing service at the Youth Trust, focusing on early intervention support. The data we collect from this survey will help shape how we develop this service, as well as informing our current service delivery.

“This is a community effort. Many of the usual avenues of reaches young people are still closed due to COVID, so we can only deliver this survey online. To include as many young people as possible, we are offering the chance to win one of two Amazon vouchers for anyone completing the survey online and would encourage young people aged 11- 25 to get involved and encourage them to share the survey with their friends.”

Young people can anonymously complete the survey online at www.iowyouthtrust.co.uk/survey  28th January, to 28th Februar.
