Two White-Tailed Eagles Return To Isle Of Wight After Year And A Half Away

Two Wight-tailed Eagles have returned home to the Isle of Wight after almost a year and a half away.

The birds, which were released as part of a reintroduction programme in 2020, have been travelling the length and breadth of country over the past 17 months.

One sea eagle (G466) flew 6,463km (4,014 miles) and mostly spent the time in northern Scotland.

While, similarly, another of the birds (G471) also travelled to Scotland, flying 10,978km (more than 6,821 miles).

The Roy Dennis Wildlife Foundation, which runs the project alongside Forestry England, posted on Saturday (19) to say the eagles had returned to the Island.

They said:

"This is exactly the time we expect birds of their age to start to return."

Meanwhile, a police investigation is continuing after the 'sudden death' of a White-tailed Eagle on the Isle of Wight.

The sea eagle was found dead on February 24, as Isle of Wight Radio exclusively revealed.
