Tributes are being paid to a much-loved resident cat, that was home to the Isle of Wight RSPCA centre for many years.

Aragorn the cat - who has been described by one Islander as the 'King of the Cattery' - passed away on Tuesday.

The feline was well known by visitors and always the first to greet anyone visiting the cattery at the site in Godshill.

He was 'waited on hand and foot' by employees and volunteers - which he 'took full advantage of'.

He also had around five different beds to choose from to snuggle up in.

Staff at the site made the announcement 'with heavy hearts' on Thursday.

The RSPCA posted the news on Facebook:

More than 200 Islanders have reacted to the news on social media.

Islanders have paid tribute, adding comments such as: 'he made a very special impression on my heart' and 'Bless him! What a beautiful boy! Glad he had a lovely life with you all'
