Suspected Drink Driver Charged Following Ryde Crash

An Isle of Wight woman has been charged with drink-driving, following a crash in Ryde.

Isle of Wight Police say they were called to the junction of Alexandra Road and St Johns Hill in the early hours of the morning.

Officers say a vehicle had crashed into the wall of a residential property after "failing to negotiate a right hand bend."

Posting on Facebook, officers say the female driver was nearly three times over the legal limit:

"The driver provided a positive sample of breath at the roadside and was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst over the specified limit of alcohol.

"At Custody at Newport Police Station the driver provided two evidential samples of breath, the lowest of which being 101 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath (the legal limit is 35.)"

The driver will appear in court in due course.
