Storm Eunice: Brittany Ferries Vessel 'Doing Circles' Off Sandown Bay

A Brittany Ferries vessel has been seen 'circling' off Sandown Bay as Storm Eunice batters the Isle of Wight.

Armorique, a passenger and freight ferry has been off the bay for the last few hours, Isle of Wight Radio listeners say.

Brittany Ferries said, in high winds and inclement weather, "it’s best to keep a large ferry like Armorique moving, rather than anchor-up".

Tracking data from Marine Traffic shows the Armorique going in round in circles.

A spokesperson for Brittany Ferries said:

"Armorique is due to leave Portsmouth for St Malo tonight at 20:00.

"In the meantime, the berths in Portsmouth are occupied. This means Armorique had to vacate her berth this morning; returning later this afternoon when it is free again.

"In high winds and inclement weather it’s best to keep a large ferry like Armorique moving, rather than anchor-up. Hence Armorique’s unusual movements off the Isle of Wight."
