Shanklin Voluntary Groups Receive Green Flag Standard

Shanklin Voluntary Youth & Community Centre and Shanklin Football Club are celebrating after receiving a coveted Green Flag Award.

The award is the international quality mark for parks and green spaces in the country.

During the last two years, parks and green spaces have played a vital role for people through lockdowns as a place to relax, exercise and meet friends and family safely.

Achieving the Green Flag Award is testament to the hard work and dedication of the people who make the green space a great space - that everyone can enjoy.

Isle of Wight High Sheriff, Kay Marriott, said:

"Congratulations to all involved with Shanklin VYCC, Football Club and Green Town Volunteers, for maintaining so much of the Public Realm in Shanklin, and for raising the standard for the benefit of residents and volunteers."

Keep Britain Tidy’s Accreditation Manager, Paul Todd, added:

“I would like to congratulate everyone involved in making Shanklin sites worthy of a Green Flag Award.

“The County Ground, Youth Centre, Memorial, Library and Railway Station are vital green spaces for the community on the Island. This award is testament to all the hard work of staff and volunteers, who do so much to ensure that it maintains the high standards demanded by the Green Flag Award.”

Paul Biddlecombe, Chair of SVYCC and ex Shanklin FC Manager, concluded:

"Shanklin's fortunate to have so many volunteers looking after community spaces, and providing quality spaces for activities such as Football, Cricket, Bowls, as well as the recreational activities at Shanklin VYCC.
