Shanklin Man Charged After Assault Left Another Man And Police Officer With Injuries

One man has been charged following a serious assault in Shanklin yesterday (Saturday).

25-year-old Thomas Riordan, from Shanklin, has been charged with GBH with intent and obstructing arrest.

He has been remanded in to police custody and will be attending court tomorrow (Monday).

Officers were called to an address in Atherley Park Close in Shanklin yesterday morning, shortly after 7am, where it is alleged Thomas Riordan caused serious injuries to an occupant.

On arrest he allegedly violently resisted and was restrained by officers. The officer sustained minor injuries.

On Isle of Wight Police Facebook page, Sgt Radford said:

"The amount of work it takes to get a result whilst the suspect is in custody is no small undertaking. The amount evidence we need to gather and the paperwork we need to complete for the CPS to make a decision is difficult to describe unless you see it yourself.

"The combined effort of the Response Team, South Wight NPT and our Investigation Team who deal with the suspect and collate the work, this has given us this positive result for the victim who is our main focus.

"There is no place in society for this alleged behaviour, we will be here to support and help you should you ever need to call us.

"GBH with intent carries a maximum life sentence, although the general guidelines for this offence range from 2-16 years.

"Obstruct/Resist arrest carries a maximum of 1 month imprisonment and/or a fine of up to 1K."
