Shanklin Elects New Mayor And Deputy

Shanklin has a new mayor and deputy.

Cllr Chris Quirk, who also retained his Shanklin South seat in the Isle of Wight Council elections, is taking over the role from Cllr Steve Knight.

Meanwhile, Cllr Susan Godden has been appointed Deputy Mayor by Shanklin Town Council.

The new leadership says its priorities will be to supporting improvements in the town’s infrastructure.

It says doing so will "aid the local tourism dominated economy in returning to normality after the COVID-19 lockdown".

Cllr Quirk said:

"High priorities will include... improvements to the toilet provision on the seafront, ensuring restoration of the historic cliff paths, initiating remedial work on the Grade ll Listed Esplanade Clock Tower, refurbishment of the decorative street lights, planting of Town’s parks, planters and hanging baskets, and help for events and initiatives to support the Town’s economy."
