Shanklin Aim For Cup Victory After Securing League Title

Shanklin are aiming for more glory tonight (Tuesday) as they take on Brading Town in the final of the Isle of Wight Memorial Cup.

Saturday (14) saw Shanklin clinch the Saturday League Division 1 title, after beating tonight's opponents 5-1 at the Peter Henry Ground.

But it wasn't all one way at the weekend, when Brading took the lead inside the first five minutes, with Todd Connor prodding home.

The lead didn't last long though, as George Carter-Knight equalised shortly after, sending the teams level into the half-time break.

Despite an even first half, it was Shanklin who turned up the heat in the second, taking the lead through Macca Watterson.

A brace from striker, Kyle Drew, and a goal from Cory Sanderson gave Shanklin a 5-1 win - and the coveted Isle of Wight Saturday Division One championship.

Shanklin’s win ended Whitecroft & Barton’s long reign as Isle of Wight champions.

Tonight, Shanklin take on Brading Town at Beatrice Avenue - the home of East Cowes Vics.

Kick off is 7.30pm.
