Repairs To Damaged Cowes Seawall Get Underway This Week

Seawall damaged in Cowes

Repairs to the seawall and railings at Cowes, severely damaged in this week's storms, will begin this week.

As first reported by Isle of Wight Radio, parts of the railings were ripped from the pavement, with lumps of concrete falling onto the beach after a storm last week (Wednesday).

Engineers found railings had been ripped out of the concrete and part of the seawall had collapsed.

Isle of Wight Council contractors are back on site to recover debris from the beach, including masonry and ironwork, before repairs get underway.

Councillor Phil Jordan, Cabinet member for highways and infrastructure, said:

"We are working quickly to get this section of seawall repaired after sustaining severe damage.

"These are important sea defences and this work must be carried out as quickly as possible to ensure adequate protection along this regularly walked part of the Esplanade as we head into the winter storm season."
