Dolphin Corpse 'Stolen' From Sandown History Hub

A dolphin - which died after washing up on the Isle of Wight recently - is said to have been 'stolen' from the grounds of an environmental and ecology hub at Sandown Bay.

Arc and Artecology planned to use the mammals remains as part of its Discovery Bay Natural History Collection.

Staff wanted the dolphin to go on display - and had applied for a license to make it possible.

The Department Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs states that those wanting to keep specimens, parts or derivatives of cetaceans apply for a license.

Claire Hector, from Arc and Artecology, said the mammal was behind its offices near Browns, before it went missing. She said:

"It's just disappeared from behind our offices at Browns near the Grand with distinct signs of human intervention rather than a fox! It might not have been obvious that the dolphin was there for a reason but you do need a licence to retain dolphin remains.

"So if anyone knows where it is (it's very smelly!), please can you bring it back for us."

Arc works to bring ecology to the heart of development, while Artecology is about bringing biodiversity to the built environment from sea walls to cities through bioactive design.
