Police officers were called to Smallbrook Stadium in Ryde following Newport's heated play-off final against Salisbury based Laverstock & Ford.

The Isle of Wight side had earlier missed out on promotion to the Wessex Premier League following an agonising 3-2 defeat after extra time.

It's alleged some away fans caused damage to the stadium.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said:

"We received a call about rising tensions between the two sets of fans on Saturday 23 April at Smallbrook Stadium, with local Neighbourhood Policing Team officers attending.

"No offences were disclosed and officers remained at the match in a preventative capacity."

More than 480 spectators had been in attendance for the game, including around 150 away fans.
