"Phantasmagorical!"- Drive-Through Carol Singing Service For Newport's Way Forward

Way Forward

A "phantasmagorical" drive-through Christmas carol singing extravaganza is coming to Newport next week.

The Way Forward Programme in Newport is hosting the event outside its building on Daish Way.

Staff say the coronavirus pandemic has affected their Christmas preparations - and has meant the centre's users have had to adapt.

Instead of visiting supermarkets and other places across the Island, this year members are having to bring their audience to them.

Ollie Fry, a support worker at Way Forward, said:

"We've got all the classics - all the same 16 songs that you probably hear at Christmas a lot but done in our own unique and fabulous style. Please come along. We'll be jumping, jiving - you're going to love.

"We've got all the hits, playing them right here at the programme and we'd love to have as many people as we can down here and singing along with us!"

Some users of the centre, who are shielding, have had to practice virtually.

Isle of Wight Radio went to see how Way Forward has been getting ready for their Christmas Carol singing extravaganza...

Way Forward works with those who have physical and learning disabilities, autism and mental health conditions.

Those who use the programme are inviting Islanders to drive by next Tuesday (15) and Friday (18) at 11am.

There, you will be able to sing - and donate money to help support the centre.

Way Forward is based on 25 Daish Way, Newport.
