Next Phase Of Westridge Golf Course Redevelopment Revealed

Following delays in the redevelopment of Westridge Golf Centre, the next phase looks set to begin.

The popular course on the outskirts of Ryde is currently undergoing an extension which aims to make it more desirable for golfers of all levels.

The reshaping of the two halves of the course would bring them together to ‘significantly improve playability’, and make it more challenging.

Approval was given in 2014 for the rear part of the course to be redesigned but difficulties with contractors carrying out the work meant it was started but did not progress as quickly as hoped.

With new contractors now in place to continue the work, phase one has been completed and most of phase two is set to be done by the end of the year, if the weather holds.

Now planning approval for work to the front nine holes has been applied for, by owner Mark Wright, to improve site safety and upgrade the course.

The proposals would see a new tee on hole seven, due to safety issues; a new green for the fourth hole, creating a more challenging hole and an enlarged pond on the eighth hole to make it more ‘visually impressive’.

If the work is given the green light, Plan Research, agents on behalf of the developer, say various combinations of nine holes across the site will be available for golfers at all times.

Island Roads has requested more information, deeming it essential evidence the proposed work would not negatively impact the surface water drainage system and in turn the highway network.
