Nearly £5,000 Raised By Isle Of Wight Teen With Rare Disability For Children's Charity

Amelia

An Isle of Wight teenager with a rare disability has raised nearly £5,000 for When you Wish Upon A Star.

As previously reported by Isle of Wight Radio, Amelia Burns, who at the age of three was diagnosed with a very rare, life-limiting, neurological condition called MECP 2 Duplication Syndrome, took on the challenge of completing the Red Squirrel trails from Newport to Sandown.

Although her condition mainly affects males, at the time of Amelia's diagnosis she was the first female diagnosed in the UK and thought to be just the second case in the world.

Her family were told that she would be unlikely to make her teenage years, but she will be turning 17 in August.

Amelia, who is both physically and mentally disabled completed her ten-mile challenge on Sunday (9).

Her Dad Daniel told Isle of Wight Radio:

'It was a great day, well other than the downpour halfway through for an hour, but thankfully the sun came out again for the finish.

'I wish to thank everyone for their support and donations. We have been totally blown away by the love people have shown towards Amelia and their generosity.

'We know the good work the charity will do and how these funds will help make a wish come true for children with life-limiting conditions.'

If anyone wishes to do so, you can still make a donation here
