A mysterious monolith-type structure has appeared on an Isle of Wight beach, days after similar structures were spotted in the U.S. and Romania.

Visitors to the beach at Compton Bay came across the three-sided mirrored structure on Sunday morning (December 6).

Within the last two weeks, so-called monoliths have appeared in the Utah desert, on a hill in Romania and atop a Californian mountain.

It's not clear who installed the structure on the Island's beach, or in any of the other locations they've appeared.

According to Sky News, it's after a 4m (13ft) monolith was spotted on Batca Doamnei Hill in the city of Piatra Neamt, Romania.

The appearance of the hollow structure, which has a triangular shape and is covered in a looping scrawl, sparked speculation over its origin.

Strangely, it was spotted after a monolith appeared in Utah, and then disappeared again on November 27.
