Award-winning Island chef Robert Thompson has cooked a special festive meal for Mountbatten patients and their families.

Thompson, who has an award-winning restaurant in Newport gave up his time to produce a three-course Christmas lunch at the hospice on Monday.

He also cooked for Mountbatten staff and will return to judge their internal mince pie competition later this month.

 Mountbatten CEO Nigel Hartley said:

“We are hugely grateful to Robert for coming to Mountbatten to help us spread some much-needed Christmas cheer to patients, families and staff

“This year, we are unable to have our regular Mountbatten events and gatherings, as we would normally do at Christmas.

“We still wanted to do all we can to give our staff, volunteers and those we care for something to feel good about and having Robert do this for us was a lovely occasion for everyone at Mountbatten.”

Robert Thompson, winner of the Isle of Wight's first Michelin star.

“Giving back to the Island community has always been very important to me and because of recent restrictions it has been tough to do so from both a logistical and financial point of view,” said Robert Thompson.

“Having secured the business by diversifying into UBChef, our UK wide delivery service, I'm now really pleased to be in a position to bring some festive joy to both the patients and staff at Mountbatten.

“Myself and the team cooked up a three course Christmas lunch and we very much enjoyed the day serving in the Mountbatten café and to the InPatient Unit.”
