Macie Brings Christmas Cheer To Hundreds Of Islanders In Need

A teenager from the Isle of Wight has been bringing festive cheer to the local care community — the second successive winter she has undertaken such acts of kindness.

Macie Edkins-Wherry, 15, delivered gifts to eight care homes and two care providers as well as bringing yuletide presents to specific members of the local community in recent weeks.

She received donations from a variety of people and enterprises, and used money from her paper round to purchase other items.

Festivities in 2020 saw Macie writing cards and making festive gifts for the first time, and she enjoyed helping people so much that she decided to do it again this year.

She said:

"It’s so lovely doing this, it feels good inside to make someone smile and I hope to do this every year now.

"I would like to thank the many family, friends, neighbours and even strangers who have helped me out."

Rookley's Hunt Fruit and Vegetables donated a box of clementines to each care home Macie delivered to; Barbara Martin provided 200 beautifully handmade cards; Leah Tosdevin, Morrisons champion, donated wrapping paper and tags, and Macie's family also contributed to the cause.

Macie delivered Island-wide, with Inver House, The Limes and Care in the Community in Bembridge; Fairhaven, Highfield and Merrie gardens in Ryde and Solent Grange, Abbey society and Pan Together in Newport.
