Isle Of Wight's Female Councillors Stand In Solidarity To Mark International Women's Day

Female Councillors on the Isle of Wight came together to mark International Women's Day on the steps outside Newport's County Hall this afternoon (Tuesday).

Leader of the IW Council, Lora Peacey-Wilcox, stood in solidarity alongside other Councillors and supporters of the event.

Those in attendance paid homage to International Women's Day by crossing their wrists — a symbol of this year's 'Break the Bias' theme.

Diana Conyers, Clare Mosdell, Vanessa Churchman, Debbie Andre and Claire Critichison were among other Councillors present for the occasion.

Cllr Andre said:

"It was good to come together today with other women to highlight the importance of International Women’s Day.

"Here on the Island, we have a strong, successful female Leader in Cllr Lora Peacey-Wilcox and other women in positions of authority within our Alliance administration.

"However, there is still inequality throughout our society that disadvantages women and we will continue to call out these situations whenever they occur.

"It was good to be able to stand together today in unity as a show of strength.”

County Hall is flying a flag to represent the women's suffrage movement in addition to Ukrainian and British flags.
