Isle Of Wight Teen Recognised For Fundraising Efforts With Little Sunshine Award

An Isle of Wight teenager has been recognised for raising almost £5,000 for charities on the Isle of Wight.

Macie Edkins-Wherry has been given the ‘Little Sunshine Award’ as part of a ‘Make Good Things Happen’ campaign.

As previously reported by Isle of Wight Radio, the 15-year-old started her fundraising efforts at the beginning of the pandemic by setting up a raffle to raise money for Carisbrooke College.

Thanks to a raffle, £2,092 raised has been used to fund a mental health and wellbeing room.

Over the past year, Macie has raised over £4,792 for many different Island charities, including IOW NHS Heart failure community nurses, Isle Help Through Crisis Team, Carers IW, No limits Space 4 u, which is a mental health and wellbeing charity for youths.

She also delivered Christmas gifts and then Easter treats to the elderly, with the help of family, friends and the kindness of the community.

A spokesperson for Morrisons in Newport, which has launched the campaign said:

‘We are proud to support Macie in all her fundraising. We have seen her do so much for the local community and wanted to reward her with our Little Sunshine award.’

Her next fundraisers will focus on Carisbrooke College’s mental health room, Kissy Puppy, IOW Defibrillators and Newport Carnival.
