Isle Of Wight Spring Walking Festival Hailed A Success

The Isle of Wight Spring Walking Festival has been hailed a success by organisers Visit Isle of Wight, with more than a thousand people taking part in walks hosted by local volunteers.

The nine day event saw 68 walks organised by 36 volunteer leaders and criss-crossed 334 miles, highlighting the Island's spring beauty.

The festival aims to primarily encourage ‘shoulder season’ visitors, outside of the traditional busy summer holiday period and 44% of participants were from off the Island.

These included New York pianist and composer Seth Weinstein, who has a personal project to walk around 26 islands — one for each letter of the alphabet.

This year’s Walk The Wight took place during the Spring Walking Festival and Visit Isle of Wight worked with Mountbatten to promote the popular trek, which raises funds for the hospice.

David Howarth, IW Ramblers Association, said:

"I’d like to thank all volunteer walk leaders and, of course, everyone who took part in the Spring Walking Festival to make it a success.

"Now it is time to look forward to what I’m sure will be a fantastic Autumn Walking Festival in October!"

The autumn event, which takes place between October 8 and 16, promises to be another popular one, with enquiries already coming in as to what walks will be on offer.

A full list of walks will be announced by Visit Isle of Wight later this year.
