Isle Of Wight RSPCA Seeks Charity Shop Volunteers

Inside Island RSPCA shop

In a bid to pick itself up after the pandemic the Island’s RSPCA branch is looking for Islanders to volunteer in its charity shops.

The charity, which operates independently and has to raise all of its own funds, issued an appeal just before the latest lockdown and then had to, once again, close its charity shop doors in Newport, Ventnor, Sandown and Cowes.

The shops provide a steady source of income for the charity to help fund the vital work it does to rescue, rehabilitate or rehome vulnerable animals on the Island, including domestic, farm and wild animals and birds.

Isle of Wight Branch Manager, Suzanne Pugh said:

“We’ve all had to give up so much this year, but giving back makes us feel good and we’re appealing for more volunteers this #GivingTuesday to consider donating their time when our shops reopen again tomorrow.”

“Our volunteers are the beating heart of our charity shops and without them we simply cannot function. Those donated hours sorting books and bric-a-brac or steaming and pricing clothing for display all go towards ensuring an abandoned, abused or neglected animal on the Island can be looked after and rehomed.”

The stores are reopening again from the 2nd December between 10am and 4pm Monday-Saturday (except Cowes which opens Tuesday to Saturday) and staff have been working hard to ensure it continues to be a festive but safe environment for Christmas shoppers with access to hand sanitising stations and limited numbers in-store at any one time.

Suzanne added:

“We are really looking forward to welcoming people back into our charity shops.  We have some great Christmas gifts and decorations. We’ve also got some fantastic Christmas jumpers so if you’re looking to make your Zoom call more festive why not pop in and check them out!”
