WIN: Isle of Wight Poet Immortalised As Part Of New Zombie Comic Series

A colourful character from the Isle of Wight will feature as a zombie in a new eight-part graphic novel series.

Mark Mordey, a poet based in Newport, will be transformed from his human form into a terrifying zombie, having helped bring the comic books to fruition by donating to a Kickstarter campaign.

Within a couple of hours of the campaign launch, illustrator Katherine Doodles had raised the money to begin work on her ZomCom series, with the first issue now available to purchase online at a cost of £4.

Newport's Heroes comic book store also intends to stock the series in the coming weeks.

Mark said:

"I sponsored Katherine to help this exciting project get off the ground.

"I was blessed with free education, and work interviews which consisted of one question: 'When can you start?'

"But not everyone can be a Merchant Navy officer, sometimes even spending two years away from home, then retiring in their 50s, particularly with the current employment market.

"This Proves you're never too old to have a happy childhood — I passed my O Level English literature by reading Illustrated Classics and now I'm in a graphic novel, 55 years later!"

A hardback book will be released to accompany all eight issues of the series upon the final release.

Katherine, the brains behind the project, added:

"Mark is a very fun and eccentric chap who was a delight to draw — it is always fun to draw people with so much personality and character!"
