Isle Of Wight Man Riding The Length Of Britain To Raise Funds For Cancer Charity

An Isle of Wight man is taking part in an epic ride across Britain to raise funds for cancer charity Penny Brohn UK.

Justin Hely, General Manager for independent cancer care provider GenesisCare, plans to raise £5,000 by undertaking the gruelling 980-mile cycle from Land’s End to John O’Groats next month.

The funds raised could enable Penny Brohn UK to provide one-to-one sessions with an integrated GP, nutritional therapist, counsellor or exercise specialist for up to 90 people with cancer. Departing from Cornwall on September 10th, he intends to complete the course, ending in Scotland, in just nine days.

Penny Brohn UK supports patients living with cancer by providing wellbeing services such as relaxation and mindfulness sessions, reflexology, acupuncture, and counselling, in addition to group-based wellbeing, experience sharing and support for the patient’s family and friends.

Proven to enhance the quality of life in patients with cancer, each programme is personalised to the individual, focusing on areas of support needed most. Their services are uniquely embedded into the GenesisCare patient provision and are also available to cancer patients and their families throughout the UK.

Justin said:

“Through my work at GenesisCare I’ve seen first-hand the incredible work Penny Brohn does to support patients with cancer and their loved ones. The incredible services they offer truly help people emotionally and mentally through what can be a very disorientating time.

“Although it won’t be an easy ride, I’m excited for the challenge, and I’m sure it will be incredibly rewarding. Knowing that the experience will help raise awareness as well as vital funding so more patients can access their services will be a huge motivation to spur me on.

“GenesisCare and Penny Brohn have a long standing and unique partnership, founded on a shared vision of improving the life outcomes of all patients with cancer and I’m honoured to be part of the continued work we do together.”

Marco from Hampshire benefitted from Penny Brohn UK’s services. He adds:

“During my treatment at GenesisCare, the reflexology and acupuncture I was able access in the centre, through the partnership with Penny Brohn UK was extremely beneficial and helped me relax and relieve tension during my treatment period.

“It was part of an integrative cancer care approach that made me feel I was being fully supported, and it wasn’t just about the cancer.”

GenesisCare has 14 specialist oncology centres throughout the UK with centres in Hampshire in Southampton and Portsmouth.
