Isle Of Wight Festival "Working Behind Scenes" Despite Glastonbury Cancellation

The Isle of Wight Festival is "continuing to work behind the scenes", despite the cancellation of Glastonbury.

Festival boss John Giddings has told Isle of Wight Radio that he has his fingers crossed that the event will go ahead.

It comes after Glastonbury organisers announced it would be cancelled for a second year in a row, “in spite of their efforts to move Heaven and Earth".

Michael and Emily Eavis said they cannot make the festival happen this year and they are "sorry to let you all down."

The news prompted fears that the Isle of Wight Festival, which is scheduled to go ahead June 17 - 20, would also be called off.

However, organisers have moved to distance themselves from suggestions - promising "news soon."

Mr Giddings said the size of Glastonbury means organisers had to make the call as to whether or not to go ahead earlier.

Taking to Twitter, Isle of Wight Festival posted:

"Rest assured we’re continuing to work behind the scenes to get ready for the Isle of Wight Festival this summer and hope to have more news for you soon. In the meantime, stay safe."

The Isle of Wight Festival did not go ahead last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Earlier this month, organiser John Giddings pleaded with Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, to take advantage of the skills of people who are aren't able to work in the events industry, due to the pandemic.

He said staff in the live music and entertainment industry were 'ready and waiting' to help roll out the coronavirus vaccination.
