Isle Of Wight Festival Goers: Keep An Eye Out For Eco Warriorz On Recycling Mission

Eco Warriorz

For the first time ever, a team of Eco Warriorz are on a recycling mission at this year's Isle of Wight Festival - in a bid to ensure the site at Seaclose is left the way it was before the event.

EXCLUSIVE...

After seeing the mess leftover from Boomtown Festival, a team of volunteers became inspired to encourage others to recycle properly - and most importantly pack up their tents.

At the site in Winchester, the Eco Warriorz worked alongside festival goers and organisers to reduce the campsite waste that year by 70 per cent.

To prove how easy it is to sustain and recycle, the team wander the campsites dressed up in handmade outfits - created from plastic, tent pegs and rubbish left behind.

You can also win a ticket for the next Isle of Wight Festival if you complete the pack down of your tent in the quickest time possible - time trials will take place across the campsite.

Liz Pendleton organises the Eco Warriorz and is part of the team herself, she said:

“Looking after the place you are visiting is easy, it is a sign of respect of the place you are visiting to make sure you put your waste in the right bins and leave no waste. Take your tent home with you - unfortunately, there is a message that sort of seems to spread around festival land - that if you leave your tent it will go to charity - that is not the case. So much goes to landfills and it is a huge environmental problem. We need to take care of the places we visit.”

“We travel the distance of the campsite as much as we can and we recruit volunteers along the way - we have space for 60 people to get dressed up and have fun in the campsite...We offer volunteers a meal every day you are there and some other good perks.”

People are being urged to keep an eye out for a ‘crazy lady’ wearing a tent with a giant flag - handing out bin bags and educating people about the importance of recycling.
