Isle Of Wight Donkey Sanctuary Wins Prestigious Rural Business Awards

The Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary has been honoured with two prestigious rural business awards at a ceremony held at The Isle of Wight County Show on Monday (June 26).

The Sanctuary has been awarded Rural Tourism Business of the year and can now boast the title of Rural Business of the Year.

The popular local charity, based in Wroxall, is home to 123 rescued and abandoned donkeys along with several ponies and horses.

Since being rescued from the brink of bankruptcy a little over ten years ago, the charity has gone from strength to strength under the leadership of charity manager Derek Needham and business partner Carol Foote.

When asked for his reaction, Derek said:

“We are hugely proud of the welfare work our small, independent charity does to care for donkeys in need of a new, safe home on the Isle of Wight.

“The awards are dedicated to our hardworking volunteers and staff who give their time, skills and patience to ensure our donkeys have everything they need to live a happy, healthy life.

“The Sanctuary has had to adapt and work incredibly hard in recent years through the coronavirus pandemic and we’re grateful to the supporters who stood by us.”
