Heavy Rain Leads To Cliff Fall Between Sandown And Shanklin

Heavy rain over the past few days has led to an area of cliff face between Sandown and Shanklin falling on to the footpath below.

The mud and earth deposits have cascaded down the cliff face, and come to rest on the barrier wall.

The notoriously unstable cliffs on the South East coast of the Island routinely shed soil and clay, and warning signs are posted along the seafront.

It comes after a staggering amount of rainfall fell on the Island yesterday, causing routes to be flooded and several flood warnings to be issued by the Environment Agency.

Elsewhere, a landslip in Ventnor last night, thought to have also been caused by the heavy rain, resulted in two people being rescued from their property.
