Green-Fingered Thief Targets Youth Allotment In Ryde

A man has been caught on camera stealing compost from a community allotment in Ryde.

The green-fingered thief was seen raiding Network Ryde's plot, on Quarry Road.

He was spotted on the youth project's wildlife camera, which was installed when the allotment opened at the beginning of the month.

After taking to social media, Youth Work Manager Bex said she has received plenty of generous offers to replace the compost.

However, she told Isle of Wight Radio it was more about the principle. She said:

"To me the cost of the compost is irrelevant however the principle behind stealing from the young people has infuriated me.

"The young people fundraise for the plants and materials for the plot and are incredibly disappointed with this.

"We work hard to build positive relationships between young people and the community and as you can see here this is an adult taking the compost."

Bex said young people had raised £360 for the plants and materials and would like the man to return the compost and apologise.

Video footage has been passed on to the police have been.

Isle of Wight Radio has asked Hampshire Constabulary for a comment.
