Friends Of St Mary's Bring Christmas Cheer To Island's Wards

The Friends of St Mary's hospital have been working to ensure that Christmas will be a little more cheerful for patients and nursing staff.

Over 400 small gifts - gathered and funded by the Friends of St Mary's - will be distributed around the wards of the hospital, with all the gifts this year being confectionery.

But because of Covid precautions there will be no individual handing out of the sweets by the Friends, with each ward instead receiving a bag of items, leaving staff to carry out final distribution.

Lesley Myland, chairman of the Friends, said:

“Despite all the current challenges we thought it was important we should still show in some small way that we care about those patients and staff who are in the hospital over Christmas.

“It’s just another service our charity likes to provide, on top of running retail outlets and buying much needed medical equipment.”
