Freshwater Co-Op Closure Date Revealed As Tesco Prepares Takeover

Freshwater's Southern Co-op store will close at the end of this week, it's been confirmed.

The Afton Road store is due to become a Tesco, as Isle of Wight Radio revealed last year.

The Post Office will remain in the store and is expected to be shut for at least four weeks while refurbishment works take place.

An official opening date for the new supermarket, which is the biggest in the West Wight, has yet to be disclosed.

A Post Office spokesperson said:

"While the change over takes place, customers can use two alternative branches.

"Yarmouth (Quay Street) open 9am to 12pm Monday to Friday and Totland Bay operating from The Broadway Inn open 8.30am to 1pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 11am on Saturday."

The Co-operative store will shut on Sunday (6) at 4pm.

Updated

Southern Co-operative has confirmed the store will now shut earlier than planned.

It will close at 5pm on Saturday (5).

Signage outside the store is due to be updated accordingly.
