A £340,000 investment is looking to bring back a once-popular Ryde hotspot with a new look and a new name.

The Kasbah on Union Street is in for a face-lift after sitting empty for nearly two years as new owners, Stars Pubs and Bars, come in and make changes.

Most notably the landlords are re-naming the establishment ‘The Ryde Inn’ and removing the ‘slightly jarring’ previous signs and decorations.

Plans have been unveiled in a planning application to the Isle of Wight Council for changes to signs on the building.

Planning documents say the design of the building will sit comfortably in its surroundings on Union Street and enhance the prominent building, making it less obtrusive with traditional, muted colours.

The Edinburgh-based company is the pub business of beer brand Heineken.

It buys pubs, makes improvements and then rents the pub to tenants.

On its website, ‘The Ryde Inn’ is available to rent for £53,493 a year.

It’s not just external but internal redecorations, with Stars Pubs and Bars saying the property is set to receive £340,000 overall investment with a complete overhaul throughout and new furniture.

The signage application, 21/02082/ADV can be viewed on the Isle of Wight Council’s planning register.

Comments can be submitted until December 10.
