Firefighters from two locations on the Island have been tackling flames at a shoreline restaurant in Colwell Bay this morning.

Crews were called to The Hut, after a reported fire in a cupboard used for electrical apparatus.

Pumps from Freshwater and Newport arrived, with firefighters using a jet and breathing apparatus in their work to put out the flames.

By 11.15am, with the fire controlled, they were using infra-red cameras to search for any hot-spots.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service added their officers had to remove some wood panelling, to check behind it for any further fire.

Restaurant staff confirmed to Isle of Wight Radio this morning that no injuries had occurred, and the business expected to re-open as normal on Tuesday, May 25.
