Fifth Isle Of Wight School Announces Positive COVID Test

Medina College has become the fifth school in the past seven days to announce that someone within the school community has received a positive test result for coronavirus.

It comes as Binstead Primary, Cowes Enterprise College, Island Innovation Sixth Form, and Barton Primary schools all announced that they were working with Public Health England after positive cases were identified.

On behalf of Medina College, an Isle of Wight Council spokesperson said:

"Executive Headteacher Matthew Parr-Burman has confirmed that a member of the Medina College community has tested positive for Covid-19. Students, parents and staff have all been informed.

"The school has rigorously followed the advice of Public Health England, accessed through the Department for Education’s official advice service, and 20 members of the school community will be self-isolating as a precautionary measure, with a return date of Thursday 19 November.

"The college remains open for all other students, and stringent safety measures remain in place. For those students self-isolating, high quality education will continue to be provided remotely."
