Fire crews have been called to a three-vehicle crash on Whippingham Road, near the Racecourse Roundabout, this morning (Friday).
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service says it was called at 6.38am, and has two appliances from Newport in attendance.
Two ambulances from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are in attendance.
Three vehicles are understood to be involved - with Isle of Wight Radio listeners reporting that two of the cars have reportedly come to rest in the verge.
Congestion is heavy in the area as motorists try to enter and leave East Cowes, and Isle of Wight Radio understands that Police are currently controlling traffic.
UPDATED (07.55):
Isle of Wight Radio understands that fire crews have now been stood down, and the occupants of the vehicles have escaped with minor injuries - police remain on scene.
Delays and diversions have been caused on Southern Vectis' Routes 4 and 5 this morning and traffic still remains heavy.
Routes 4 & 5 - Serious RTI - Whippingham Rd, East Cowes. No traffic able to pass. A limited single deck service with limited capacity will operate on an ad hoc best endeavour basis as soon as possible.
