Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance's popular 'Dash in the Dark' is coming to the Isle of Wight for the first time.
The event encourages participants to take part in a 5K night-time fun run at Seaclose Park, Newport. 800 participants joined the Southampton Dash in the Dark last year.
As the sun sets and the night draws in, friends, family and supporters of the life-saving charity are encouraged to light up the night and dash their way around the course while covered head to toe in neon paint and fancy dress.
Runners and walkers of all ages and abilities can take part in this family-friendly event, with every penny raised helping the charity to treat the most critically ill and injured patients in the region.
Director of Income and Engagement, Keith Wilson, said:
“Dash in the Dark is a highlight of our year. And it is incredibly exciting that we’re now able to bring this event to our dedicated supporters on the Island who have played such a huge part in this charity’s history.
"Since the first Dash in 2019, over £56,000 has been raised – all going towards helping those who are in desperate need of emergency critical care.”
The life-saving charity responded to 110 critically-ill patients on the Isle of Wight in 2021.
And, in that same year, the charity’s Critical Care Team was involved in the transfer of a ventilated Covid-19 patient from St Mary’s Hospital to University Hospital Southampton, to relieve pressure in the hospital’s heavily stretched Intensive Care Unit.
Check in on the night will open at 5.30pm at Saturday, October 8. The warm up will start at 6:30pm, with the 5km dash beginning at 6:45pm, as darkness falls.
The route is softly lit and paved throughout, though head torches are essential. All participants will receive a free Dash in the Dark T-shirt and a glow in the dark medal at the finish line.
