COVID Means Further Floating Bridge Disruption

The Isle of Wight's floating bridge will be off tomorrow (Wednesday) — the latest reason given is staff contracting COVID-19.

The Isle of Wight Council says "a number" of council employees have caught the illness over the past few days.

It means it will be off tomorrow between 8am and 8pm.

A spokesperson for the council said:

"The council will continue to maintain the scheduled hours of operation, but with the exception that, tomorrow (Wednesday 29 June), the service will be suspended.

"The council is taking advantage of the unforeseen suspension to undertake preventative maintenance which was originally scheduled for the evenings of 4, 5 and 6 July and will seek to complete these works in their entirety tomorrow instead.

"We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause."

A launch service will be in operation for foot passengers and cyclists.
