Coronavirus: Yarmouth And Freshwater See Largest Weekly Rise In Cases

Yarmouth and Freshwater saw the biggest rise in coronavirus cases in the week ending August 19.

Data from Public Health England shows 57 positive results were recorded in the area in the seven-day period. That is up by 36 - or 171.4 per cent - when compared to the previous week.

Next on the list is Shanklin Central and Lake which saw case numbers rise by 25 in that week. During those seven days, there were 44 cases in the area.

Elsewhere on the Island, Cowes West, Gurnard and Northwood, which saw a 166.7 per cent rise in cases earlier this month, again recorded high levels of COVID. In that period, 64 cases were registered there, although that is down by six when compared to the previous week.

With 15 positive results, Niton, Shorwell and Godshill had the lowest number of cases across the Island.

As a whole, the Isle of Wight has seen case rates rise enough to turn it purple on the Government's interactive map. In the last seven-days, 622 cases were recorded here - up by 133 when compared with the previous week.
