Coronavirus: Further Ten Cases Recorded On Isle Of Wight

A further ten cases of coronavirus have been confirmed on the Isle of Wight.

According to official figures, data revealed today (Wednesday) takes the Island's total - since the pandemic started - to 858.

Before today, the last rise in cases was confirmed on Sunday (15), when numbers for the Island stood at 857. However, the following day (Monday 16), nine cases were taken off the Island's tally.

It is not yet clear as to why this happened, however it is believed the cases could have been reallocated to other local authorities.

Another possibility is that the nine cases were from university students on the mainland.

As Isle of Wight Radio previously reported, some uni students may still be registered with their GP on the Island, meaning their result would be recorded on the Isle of Wight's data.

In the first 18 days of November, 230 coronavirus tests have come back as positive on the Island.

The Isle of Wight Council is advising us to follow the government guidelines: hands, face, space.

  • Wash your hands often and for at least 20 seconds or use hand sanitiser regularly.
  • Wear a face-covering where appropriate.
  • Keep space from other people; 2 metres or at least 1 metre apart.

If you or someone you know, displays any symptoms, no matter how mild, the council is urging you to get a free test by calling 119 or visiting NHS.uk

The council has also produced a self-isolation toolkit to help people prepare to self-isolate if they need to.
