Candy Man — Sweet Dreams Come True For New Shanklin Business Owner

A brand-new shop owner hopes to bring a sweet serving of nostalgia to Shanklin's town centre.

Candies, the brainchild of owner Matthew Larcome, is located next to Shanklin Library on Falcon Cross Road, opened its doors for the first time yesterday morning (Thursday).

The candyfloss pink sweet shop is stocked with more than 150 jars of childhood classics from the past five decades, and includes a large tuck shop.

As well as pick ‘n’ mix sweets, customers can stock up and treat the family to a selection of goodies including chocolate, toffees, soft drinks and milkshakes.

The store soon hopes to add a selection of Isle of Wight produce including homemade cakes, ice cream and fudge, in addition to traditional seaside souvenirs.

Matthew, said:

“I had always dreamed of opening a proper old-fashioned sweet shop, so I decided to take the plunge and start this new business and people love it.

"The shop was always meant to be a sweet shop and it just works.

“Customers are coming from all over the Island to experience our little sweet shop that’s full of charm and joy. It’s full of sweet memories for everyone.”

The shop opens daily between 11am and 5.30pm, with updates to its stock range available on the Candies Isle of Wight Facebook page.
