Cancelled: Ellen MacArthur Boxing Day Dip On Isle of Wight

Isle of Wight

The usual Boxing Day Dip which raises funds for the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust has been cancelled.

But you and your household can still go for a splash or create your own challenge to support the Trust in changing young lives after cancer in 2021 by joining the #TwixmasTribe.

Hundreds of brave bathers and a large crowd of supporters usually gather on Gurnard Green on December 26 for the Boxing Day Dip. It's become a popular festive tradition but unfortunately, like many things in 2020, it has been cancelled due to COVID-19.

Over the years the local community has come together and raised thousands of pounds for the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust.

Twixmas is that time between Christmas and New Year when leftovers are eaten and everyone starts to feel a little restless. But not the #TwixmasTribe, who will be making the most of this time by staying active and creative together, apart.

Ashton Howard, Organiser and Communications Officer at the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust, said:

"We're always blown away by the incredible support and generosity from the local community and cancelling this event is the last thing we wanted to do.

“But we're not going to let COVID-19 get in the way of all the fun, we would love to invite everyone to join our #TwixmasTribe as a way of coming together in spirit if not in person."

This year you get to choose how you want to make a difference. Don't be put off by the cold sea, set yourself a Twixmas challenge – something you can achieve in those fallow five days – and make it as exhilarating or relaxing as you like.

Why not start a New Year's resolution early, dust off your running shoes, start learning a new skill, or join a Joe Wicks workout. Join the Trust’s JustGiving campaign, set up your fundraising page, and let the #TwixmasTribe cheer you on.
