Attempted Daytime Burglary In Binstead Linked To Several Others

A two-foot metal pole has been seized by police following an attempted burglary in Binstead.

Hampshire Constabulary believes the incident is connected to a series of burglaries elsewhere on the Island, as previously reported by Isle of Wight Radio.

Police say an individual attempted to gain entry to a property on The Mall, Binstead yesterday (Tuesday). It's thought it happened between 10am and 1.30pm.

Isle of Wight Radio understands the suspect tried to gain entry to the property's lounge by placing a two-foot metal pipe through the window in an attempt to open the handle.

The door was locked, meaning no entry was gained and nothing was taken. Police are said to have taken fingerprints from the scene.

Officers say they do not have a description of the suspect yet. A spokesperson for the force said:

"We also want to take this opportunity to encourage residents to do what they can to keep their properties secure.
