Arrest Made And 'Large' Quantity Of Drugs Seized In Shanklin

A 'large quantity' of Class A drugs have been seized and one arrest has been made as part of an operation in Shanklin.

Police on the Isle of Wight teamed up with Southern Housing and the Isle of Wight Council for 'Operation Wisteria'.

It followed concerns raised over drug-related harm and anti-social behaviour at Sandham House (Sandown) and Butler Gardens (Shanklin).

Rooms were searched and one person was arrested.

A police spokesperson said:

"Using Police Powers and with the support of Southern Housing Group and Mick Halliday from the Isle of Wight Council, we conducted three room and person searches across both sites and completed in excess of twenty intervention risk assessments with vulnerable residents - who we can now refer for extra support.

"The Operation culminated in the Arrest of one female from Butler Gardens, Shanklin on suspicion of Possession with Intent to Supply Class A Controlled Drugs and Resist Arrest. A large quantity of Class A Controlled Drugs have been seized - this is the culmination of fantastic collaboration between our team, Southern Housing Group and Mick Halliday at the Isle of Wight Council.

"Over the past month with have issued three Community Protection Notices and an Anti-Social Behaviour Premises Closure Warning in attempts to tackle the issues."
