Staff at the NHS Vaccination Hub at the Riverside Centre in Newport marked their 50,000th anti-coronavirus inoculation on Saturday (June 19).

Amid balloons and congratulations, patient Gemma Duer, 25, received a shot of the BioNTech/Pfizer treatment.

David Noyes, chief operating officer (Southampton and Hampshire) of the Solent NHS Trust, said:

"Super proud of the whole team at our IoW vacc centre at Riverside who today achieved the brilliant milestone of 50,000 jabs given.

"Great achievement by all involved, led by the super Sarah Stringer with support from across the whole community."

The team has been supported by volunteers from Freshwater Fire Station and the Friends of Freshwater Fire Station group.

Members congratulated Ms. Stringer (senior manager) along with matron Janice Salter, clinical shift lead Michelle Martin and Emmeline Payne, who is the vaccination centre manager.

They also honoured Watch Manager Kev Garrett, who they said had been part of the team from the beginning.

The vaccination centre's work must continue, as all adults 18 and over are invited to receive anti-coronavirus jabs.
