Another yellow weather warning for heavy rain has been issued for the Isle of Wight, with up to 30mm of rainfall possible this evening (Wednesday).

Forecasters warn flooding could return across the Island, as a large area of heavy and persistent rain is expected to track across southern parts of the UK through tomorrow evening.

Rainfall totals of between 15 and 20mm are forecast, with some localised areas potentially seeing higher amounts.

While this level of rain would not usually trigger a warning, the already high water table means there is an increased risk of further flooding.

There remains a continued risk of rivers and streams breaching their banks, which could once again lead to flooding in areas known to be prone.

Road users are being advised to take extra care, with widespread surface water expected and large puddles likely to form on many roads, creating potentially hazardous driving conditions.

The warning will be in force from 5pm until 11pm on Wednesday.

In more rural parts of the Isle of Wight, soil, silt and shingle may be washed across roads and walkways as rainfall intensifies.

Polluted stormwater runoff could also impact beaches during and after the period of heavy rain.

Residents are being urged to remain vigilant, take care when travelling, and be prepared for possible disruption during the warning period.
