Another yellow weather warning for heavy rain has been issued for the Isle of Wight, with up to 30 millimetres of rainfall possible on Wednesday evening.

The Isle of Wight Met Service says a large area of heavy and persistent rain is expected to move across southern parts of the UK, bringing an increased risk of flooding across the Island.

Rainfall totals of around 15 to 20 millimetres are forecast, with some areas potentially seeing higher amounts.

While this level of rain would not normally trigger a warning, forecasters say the already high water table means the risk of flooding is significantly increased.

There is a continued concern that rivers and streams could breach their banks, potentially leading to flooding in locations that are known to be vulnerable.

Road users are being warned to expect widespread surface water, with large puddles likely to form on many routes, creating difficult and potentially hazardous driving conditions.

In more rural areas, heavy rain could wash soil, silt and shingle onto roads and footpaths, adding to the risk of disruption.

Polluted stormwater runoff may also affect beaches around the Isle of Wight during and shortly after the period of heavy rainfall.

The yellow warning will be in force from 5pm until 11pm on Wednesday.

Residents are being urged to remain vigilant, take extra care when travelling, and be prepared for possible disruption during the warning period.
