The Isle of Wight could be hit by gusts of up to 70mph on Friday morning, with a yellow weather warning in place for much of the day.

IW Met Service has issued the warning for Friday (October 23), with strong southwesterly winds expected to develop overnight on Thursday and continue into Friday.

Gusts of 60-70mph are possible, with winds expected to turn more westerly or west-northwesterly as the morning progresses.

The strongest winds could coincide with the morning rush hour, potentially affecting journeys around the Island and cross-Solent travel.

The warning runs from 1am until 4pm on Friday.

However, forecasters have stressed that there is still considerable uncertainty over the storm’s track.

A small shift further north could mean the strongest winds miss the Island and the warning is no longer needed.

If the severe gusts arrive, exposed coastal roads could be affected by large waves and sea spray, while ferry services may face disruption.

High-sided vehicles could also be vulnerable on exposed routes, and fallen trees or branches could block roads and footpaths.

Residents are advised to secure loose items outdoors, allow extra time for journeys and take care near exposed coastlines.
