Works to rebuild and resurface the main road through Wroxall are running slightly ahead of schedule, with the route set to reopen tomorrow evening (Tuesday 9 December).

Island Roads says the project has reached roughly the halfway point, and reopening the road over Christmas and New Year will help keep access to Ventnor clear during a crucial period for the town’s economy.

The break in works will also provide some welcome respite for Wroxall residents, who have experienced extended disruption including additional night-time shifts.

An Island Roads spokesperson said:

“We have made good progress despite the weather, thanks to the support and co-operation of road users and the Wroxall community.
"We have now reached a stage where it is sensible to pause work and re-open the road at an important time for Ventnor.
"The last thing we want is to start a new section and then be unable to finish it because of bad weather.”

Work is expected to resume on 5 January (weather permitting).

From that point, the main access out of Wroxall will be via Ventnor, and residents are advised to allow extra time for journeys.

Island Roads will continue to provide updates via email, their website and local media.
