WightAID Launches £1 Million Fundraising Drive On 10th Anniversary

WightAID is aiming to reach £1 million in donations to Island good causes as it marks its tenth anniversary.
The charity has raised more than £920,000 since it was established in 2016, helping more than 300 organisations and community groups.
The new fundraising campaign was launched at a champagne afternoon tea for supporters at Northwood House earlier this month.
WightAID is now asking Islanders to donate or organise fundraising events, with the aim of reaching the £1 million milestone by September 2027.
Founder Geoff Underwood said there was "so much need" on the Island and thanked businesses and individuals who had supported the charity over the past decade.
New trustee Dale Howarth was also introduced at the anniversary event, while a video produced by Tom Stroud highlighted WightAID's work.
The latest round of grants has seen six Island organisations receive a combined total of more than £18,845.
The Getaway Foundation received the largest grant of £6,135, which will fund ten respite breaks for Island families in 2027.
Other grants include:
Two Generation CIC – £4,500 for its Homeshare scheme, connecting older and younger people.
Independent Arts – £3,210 for its Gallery Project, showcasing artwork created by people in care homes and other settings.
Disabled Sailors Association – £2,000 towards a sailing day for 20 disabled Islanders.
Duke of Edinburgh's Award – £1,000 towards activities marking 70 years of the scheme on the Isle of Wight.
Ventnor Carnival Association – funding towards its Heritage Day, including entertainment and craft activities.
WightAID says donations can now be made through its website.
