A power outage in the West Wight has left hundreds of customers without electricity this afternoon (Thursday).

Residents of Totland and Colwell have been without power since shortly before 10am.

As many as 106 postcodes in the area have been left without supply.

In total Scottish Southern Electricity Network (SSEN) estimates that around 1,390 customers are affected.

It's hoped that power will be restored by 8pm tonight, with an engineers currently on site.

A statement from SSEN said:

"We're aware of a power cut in the area, affecting 85 homes.
"The cause of the power cut is a fault on our underground network.
"In most cases our engineers will be able to get your power back on simply by replacing a fuse."
